Job Summary
The Senior HR Generalist interacts on a day-to-day basis with field/business leaders on the people-related matters impacting their assigned business units. This role will provide Human Resources strategies designed to optimize human resources within the assigned business area in Mexico where the employee will be working and will provide support as needed in North America.
The Senior HR Generalist is responsible for the development and application of fair and consistent selection systems, policies, and programs in the area of salaried and hourly recruitment, compensation and payroll/benefit/pension administration, and employee and labour relations for assigned groups. This position leads through influence with all levels of management to ensure processes are followed and good faith efforts are achieved.
This role contracts effectively with the center led specialties within the Human Resources function in the areas such as Total Rewards, Employee Relations, and Talent Management.
Job Responsibilities
- Partners with the Compensation and Benefits COE to ensure compensation, benefits, pension, bonus and related programs are communicated and executed in the markets. Administers the payroll and benefits in Mexico including accurate calculation of wages, tax withholdings, deductions and all payroll remittances/payments while maintaining strict confidentiality. Also handles the sales team car leasing program.
- Responsible for HR compliance with all local legislation and ensuring staff are educated as required.
- Assesses employee engagement and partners with leaders to champion engagement in the markets and works to develop and deploy solutions to increase engagement levels.
- Handles recruiting in the market. Ensures consistent application on requisitions and job postings and handles the interview process from posting to partnering with the hiring manger to complete the hire. Proactively develops recruitment strategies to ensure a diverse applicant pool. Onboards all new hires and ensures an exceptional employee experience for all staff.
- Works with the business leaders to ensure diversity and inclusiveness are embraced and supported by all staff.
- Identifies talent issues before they impact the business and manages performance effectiveness. Participates in investigation procedures for internal and external complaints.
- Fosters and improves employee development processes that support employees needs and future business needs.
- Provides support and coordination with key leadership; provides guidance and HR expertise and leads difficult or challenging performance management activities that balance employee and business interests.
- Establishes and maintains productive relationships with all employees in order to best serve their needs, as well as address and facilitate the resolution of employee questions/concerns and other employee related issues. Takes established company guidelines regarding performance review/management, succession planning, career development and change management and integrates HR strategies into business plans.
- Provides support to leaders, managers and employees to better understand and utilize Human Resources tools, processes and policies; maximizes organizational effectiveness and improves performance.
- Manages HR budget for Mexico including handling all contracts and invoices.
- Supports Human Resource initiatives as required in both Canada and the U.S.A.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor Degree is mandatory.
- HR Certification (SPHR, PHR, CP or SCP) is desired.
Experience Requirements
- This position typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience and must live in Mexico. In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated the following:
- Significant experience administering in-house payroll/third party payroll providers as well as managing benefit and pension programs.
- Possess strong business acumen including financial capability and demonstrated experience managing budgets and suppliers. Excellent judgment and sensitivity for dealing with confidential issues; ability to interact in ambiguous situations and empathetic to the needs of others.
- A confident, pragmatic, "hands-on" Human Resources professional who provides positive reinforcement for desired behaviours at all levels.
- Excellent problem solving skills and agility to change course quickly with an ability to take calculated risks and present/pitch ideas.
- Strong ability to naturally build relationships with internal/external customers, and demonstrates integrity, positive attitude and effective teamwork.
- A team player with excellent interpersonal and strong "people skills", outstanding verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish on both an individual and group basis, excellent writing skills, negotiating skills, and polished demeanor.
- Technical expertise in the effective handling of employee relations issues.
