Reports to and is under the direction of the President & Chief Executive Officer. Plans, organizes and directs all aspects of the Human Resource function for all the affiliates and businesses of Masonicare covering employee relations, employment, recruitment, compensation, and employee benefits for all employees. Understands the mission, vision and values of Masonicare and the department by recognizing the needs of all employees while understanding and respecting that each individual is unique.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Department.
- Act as resource and counsel to senior leadership in matters relating to human resources policy implementation and strategic decision making. Provide effective leadership by establishing collaborative relationships at all levels within the organization and championing a philosophy that promotes an accessible, hands-on human resources presence.
- Oversee the selection, onboarding and assignment of HR department staff (either directly or through subordinate supervision). Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.
- Maintains established departmental HR policies and procedures. Assures HR policies are current and updated to adjust to business needs as well as responsible for educating and informing managers and supervisors in other departments of HR policy and procedures.
- Develops and recommends the HR departmental operating budget and strives to operate within efficient and effective budget parameters each fiscal year.
- Directs the preparation, filing and record keeping of all HR reports, as required and assures the fulfillment of HR goals and objectives. Ensures that all reporting and filing required by auditing firm for annual audit of Masonicare's pension and 401(k) plans are in order and delivered in a timely manner.
- Participates in the development of the overall business plan, objectives, human resource philosophy and the strategic business planning to assure a balance between the business goals and trends in human resource management.
- Stays abreast of workforce issues to assure satisfactory resolutions and ensure that all employment laws and statues are followed accordingly.
- Evaluates changing demographic, legal, and technical developments in the HR field and develops new programs responsive to such needs.
- Participates in the development of compensation, competitive benefits, employee relations and training initiatives to enhance a healthy work life balance.
- Acts as arbiter in policy and employee relation matters, wage and salary issues and employee disputes. Partners with management to create an employee relations climate that fosters a positive working relationship between management and staff.
- Ensures the confidentiality, security and accuracy of personnel data and develops organization-wide statistics, cost projections, and HR files on all employees. Assures compliance with regulatory requirements, particularly Wage & Hour compliance.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in the field of expertise.
- Provide for the orientation, training and education of all employees. Ensure the provision of professional development opportunities for staff. Support the development of mid-level managers (Leadership Forum) throughout the company.
- Interacts with outside legal counsel on lawsuits, legal, compliance issues, job eliminations and separation matters.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree Preferred
Experience: Sufficient experience in long-term care and/or hospital administration, human resources administration or a related field to include the following attributes: A minimum of ten (10) years experience in healthcare human resources administration complimented by a Master's degree in human resources, labor relations or related area of expertise. The ability to lead and manage in a complex organization with constant change. The ability to build credibility and trust in the human resources function throughout the organization. An open, approachable and collaborative style, at ease with all levels of staff in the organization. Demonstrated ability to rapidly gain and retain a high degree of credibility and trust. Outstanding verbal and exceptional written communications skills; an excellent listener with the ability to relate well to a diverse group of constituents. Demonstrated ability to facilitate change with a commitment to the interpersonal, organizational, political, perceptual and environmental issues, which invariably accompany change. Maintains strict confidentiality and works well with the all levels of management and staff. A self-starter with a high energy level and a can-do attitude; a sense of urgency and the ability to conceptualize and build a proactive human resources function with the capacity to contribute to the strategic direction of the organization and respond to the needs of a diverse workforce. A demonstrated customer focus with a track-record in developing programs which anticipate, identify and meet customer requirements.
